2010 New York Mets Season Preview

As you can see the Mets have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. But for real, this will probably just make them worse. The Mets are notorious for choking away division leads at the end of the season. This has manager Jerry Manuel starting the season on the hot seat and he will most likely be fired if this team struggles early on. Most experts don't predict the Mets to have a chance to choke away the division because they will be so far out of the race. Their pitching staff has some alleged aces, Garza and Sabathia, who they will count on to carry the load while the rest of their staff is in question. Edwin Jackson has proven he can win in the AL, with an all-star bid last year with the Tigers, and fans are hopeful he can do it in the poor NL. The bottom 2 spots in the rotation are up for grabs and are most likely to be shuffled as the season goes on. Their lineup has a lot of pop, but is old and may struggle early and often. The only young players in the starting lineup are unproven. Both Brennan Boesch and Ike Davis are yet to appear in major league games and may be shaky. Look for Bill Hall and Colby Rasmus to emerge as starters in these positions if they struggle. Another issue for the Mets has been injuries. Beltran, Reyes, and Wright have all struggled with injuries during their careers and that isn't expected to change anytime soon. At best this Mets team appears to be a possible wild card team, but don't look for them to win their division unless the unexpected happens and their pitching staff decides not to fall apart. The only thing that will save the Mets season is a winning record against their hated rivals from Philadelphia.
